Rand York processes and markets foundry chromite sand and chemical grade chromite sourced from various suppliers in Southern Africa. All material is mined in the heart of the Bushveld Complex, the principal chromite deposit in South Africa. The mining operation is mainly underground, mechanized and trackless. The operation mines the LG6 seam at an incline of 12.5 degrees.

The beneficiation plant represents the latest in spiral and heavy medium technology, producing quality foundry chromite sand. All material is washed and processed under ISO9000/2 standards or the equivalent of these standards. The beneficiation and classification create stable resin set times, maximising heat transfer characteristics, mould densities and dimensional accuracy, while minimising resin additions, gas evolution, burn on or penetration, and inhibit the formation of double skin defects.
